Sally’s Message to You

That’s what I’m all about—invisible weight loss. Giving you sustainable energy, putting a spring back in your step, taking lines off of your face, lightening your outlook—regardless of the size of jeans that you wear. I work with individuals, groups, and companies as a workshop leader, motivational speaker, and consultant. My new book, Coming to Your Senses—Soaring with Your Soul (distributed through Hara Publishing, ISBN 0-9741854-1-8) and companion experiential CD (ISBN 0-9741854-2-6) are helping people come back to their senses. And more books are on the way.

Too many lives are full, but not fulfilling. Closets are jam-packed with clothes. Calendars are full with “to do’s”—some items leave us wondering what we were thinking when we committed to them. Even finding time for our best friends can be a squeeze. “Before bringing in the new, clean out some of the old,” I say. “Start with what’s right under your nose—your home, calendar, and address book.”

Clean out your home. Get rid of anything (and everything!) that drains your energy. Photos of old boyfriends or girlfriends. Gifts you’re keeping to not offend anyone. Toss anything that puts an extra burden on you, that creates chaos or needless work. Keep all things you love. Overachievers, do the same at your office.

Clean out your calendar. Be ruthless. What activities can you cut? Which projects can you “just say no” to? Can you skip something that you’ve already committed to? Overachievers, take the concept to your office and suggest changes to (boring) meetings that have become less than effective over the years. Liven things up.

Clean out your address book. People can be the biggest energy gains and drains of them all. A long walk with one friend may be a delight, but two minutes with another can wipe you out. Identify people who most drain your energy and determine to cut down the amount of time you spend with them. Overachievers, fire a client or two. You know exactly who.

Think about it. Cleaning out your house, calendar and address book will make an instant deposit to your body’s energy account. Once you make space for the “new,” you have the time, energy, and even the inspiration to open up to the passion that is hiding right under your nose. Your energy is in there. You are an alive, vital being. And I’m not just saying that. I know for a fact that it’s true.

Your entire life will open up when you clean out just three little parts of it. And that’s just one lesson of the many lessons that you’ll find in my new book, Coming to Your Senses—Soaring with Your Soul. It’s part of “Clean” (Step 2). By “Glow” (Step 8), not even the nosiest neighbors will drain your “energy cup.” Your perspective will simply be too big for that.

Writer’s Digest recently said that I write as if I were “an eager, cheering participant with the reader in this adventure rather than merely an instructor.” Yes, that’s true. But why is it that people can get so angry with me? Really pissed? Why?

Because I tell them they could be doing something they really love. That they should be doing something they love... that makes their heart pound, sputter, and sing. It’s one of the few times you’ll catch me using the word “should.” Normally, that word is out of bounds for me. “Shoulds,” “woulds,” and “coulds” are usually laced with invisible weight.

When someone like me comes up and shines a light on the real you… saying, of all the crazy things, that you should open up and let your real self out... sometimes you can get mad. That is, if that part of you that is more than a collection of non-stop activities, duties, and occasional rewards is ready to “pop its cork” and be free.

Your soul is the force that is you. Your soul makes you unique. It’s the part of you that’s both driving your habits and looking for ripe moments to make new ones. It’s the part of you that got you out of bed this morning (or kept you there). That chose what clothes to put on (or not). That decided what food to put in your belly (and when). That decided whether you’d eat it sitting down or standing up. That picked the job you do or don’t have.

Whether you’d like to believe it or not, no one would want the day you had today. Not another living soul. Get it? You’re unique. That means you’re powerful. Powerful beyond measure. Magnificent. Immense.

There are choices literally hidden right under your very nose that can set loose bursts of positive energy. There are people and things surrounding you right now that can give you wings to soar. I don’t care what desperate situation you’re in. I don’t care how much or how little education you have. I don’t care what meaningless or meaningful job you hold. You can have sustainable energy. Life can be more fulfilling. People can be the supportive forces that they were always meant to be.

“I was particularly impressed with her emphasis on absolute honesty as a lifestyle trait and her rejection of any justification whatsoever for even the occasional ‘white lie.’ Her own personal honesty is evident in her writing style and adds validity to her message.”

Luckily, once most people give themselves permission to be honest about the people, activities, and stuff that drains them… and what lifts them… they aren’t mad at me at all—they are ecstatic! They feel that invisible weight lift, and are more free to go about their real day. Many, in fact, submit their stories for my next books, Turning Passion to Profit: 100 Stories About Making Money from Doing What You Really Love and Selfish from the Core: 100 Stories About the Power of Being Yourself.

Until you’ve experienced the energy that rises up to fuel a passion, to turn a bad day into a good one, or a good one into a great one... it’s hard to believe that life can be easier, fulfilling, and (even more) fun.

I’m the electrical engineer who cured myself of an incurable illness, and brought my inner glow to real life. I’m the nerd that documented the whole thing well enough to be able to cull out its jewel-like center, and distill all of the soft soul jargon into a crystal clear path out of the confusion and into real life.

I can help you light your spark... or if you already have one, turn it into a roaring bonfire. And if you’re a manager, I can help you structure your organization to keep lit, creative sparks alive...without burning them out. I give workshops. I help companies restructure to maximize creative play—and send burnout away.

Do you want sustainable energy?
Yes No

Do you want a life filled with passion?
Yes No

Do you want a bigger perspective about real live?
Yes No

In my new book, Coming to Your Senses–Soaring with Your Soul, I make it easy for you. First, learn to identify then say “NO” to what bores you or weighs you down. Next, identify and say “YES” to what interests you or opens your curiosity, even just a little. Then, pretty soon you will find yourself building up speed and saying “YES” to this and “NO” to that with even more awareness and pride. Until suddenly you find yourself screaming “HELL, YES!” from the rooftops to what and who you really love.

Trust me. If you don’t trust me just yet, trust yourself. Trust that from these tools you will find something new that can make the difference in achieving what you’ve always been looking for. It has for others.

Sustainable energy. Vitality. Direction. Connection. It’s there for you… and for your company. Contact me. Bring me into your company. Invite me to talk to your boss. Let’s make a difference. Life should be more fun. Work should be play. There I go again, using that word “should.” And I mean it!

Soulfully,
